ELF Member Gets 5 Years for Attempted Firebombing A Texas man who tried to firebomb a condominium development under construction in Pasadena has been sentenced to five years in federal prison. Prosecutors say 44-year-old Stephen Murphy apologized to the court and to his fiancee Monday before he was sentenced in federal court in Los Angeles. He pleaded guilty in January to conspiring with another member of the environmental extremist movement Earth Liberation Front to burn down the multimillion-dollar condos with a juice bottle containing gasoline in 2006. The timer attached to the bomb failed. Prosecutors say Murphy wanted to intimidate and inflict economic harm on individuals and companies they believed were causing harm to the environment. |

Voilà une idée géniale ! Le Québec et le Canada profiteraient aussi de l’installation de ce genre de panneau pour avertir les citoyens qu’ils sont sur le point d’entrer dans une zone peu fréquentable. L’installation de ce panneau devrait se faire prioritairement aux abords de l’Assemblée Nationale et de la Chambre des Communes.

On a accusé les gens participants au « Tea Party » d’être des chômeurs, des gens sans éducation, des racistes ou des vieux conservateurs…

Il semble bien que les « Tea Party » soient constitués de gens bien ordinaires:
En passant, 48% des Américains disent que les « Tea Party » représentent leurs opinions politiques. À l’opposé, ils sont seulement 44% à dire qu’Obama représente leur idéologie politique…

Calif. climate law under assault as groups claim it threatens economy Four years ago, California earned accolades for adopting a law that would slash its greenhouse gas emissions and serve as a model for national climate change legislation. With the state mired in a crippling recession, the law that once looked like a landmark achievement is coming under assault. The regulatory effort Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger set in motion is facing a political backlash and could come to an abrupt halt in the months ahead. A coalition of businesses, financed largely by three Texas oil companies, is funding a ballot petition that would delay the law until California’s current unemployment rate is cut by more than half. Leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has vowed she would suspend the law on her first day in office, which she would have the authority to do. The ballot petition is expected to qualify for the November ballot, with taxpayer groups, businesses and oil companies contributing nearly $1 million so far to get signature gatherers on the streets. That if approved by voters, would suspend a four-year-old California law to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Petition backers say California cannot afford to impose environmental regulations that would raise utility bills, fuel prices and cost jobs. |

L’augmentation spectaculaire de 2000 à 2001 correspond à la déconfessionnalisation des écoles.
En 2009, on a déboursé l’équivalent de 5 350$/élève en salaire (dollar de 2002) pour les employés des commissions scolaires. Autrement dit, on verse 5 350$ en salaire pour chaque élève dans le réseau… 5 350$ de bureaucratie, est-ce vraiment nécessaire pour assurer la réussite scolaire d’un étudiant ?
En 2009, les salaires totaux de tous les employés des commissions scolaires ont totalisé 6,1 milliards de dollars.

FBI sees little chance of copycat militia plots There’s a lot of anger out there. But the alleged plot by Midwestern militants and violent outbursts by scattered individuals don’t signal any coming wave of extremist violence, federal investigators say. There’s more fizzle than fight among self-styled militias and other groups right now, they say, and little chance of a return to the organized violence that proved so deadly in the 1990s. A group of Christian militants calling themselves the Hutaree stand charged with plotting attacks against police in Michigan, assaults that prosecutors say the militants hoped would inspire others to commit anti-government violence. There was no attack; authorities moved in and made arrests last weekend because, the prosecutors contend, the group was girding for action in April. There is always a risk of a lone wolf launching an attack, and law enforcement officials cannot rule out the possibility that they have failed to detect larger, more organized plots still unfolding. But the FBI bulletin – it was issued to police departments – underscores that authorities have not yet detected clear signs of a revival of organized violence that would require a strong federal response. |
